Terms of Service

Plain English: Portia is a locally-run macOS utility. You can use it however you like, on as many of your own machines as you like. We provide no warranty, and we are not responsible for processes you choose to terminate.

1. Acceptance

By downloading, installing, or using Portia ("the App"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not install or use the App.

2. License

Portia is licensed to you, not sold. You are granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, royalty-free license to install and run the App on any macOS device you own or control. You may not redistribute, resell, sublicense, or reverse-engineer the App except as permitted by applicable law.

3. Use of the App

Portia is a developer utility that detects port-binding conflicts on your local machine and offers to terminate the responsible process at your explicit request. You acknowledge that:

You are solely responsible for any process you terminate using the App.
Terminating processes may cause loss of unsaved work or interrupt running services.
The App acts only when you click an action — it never terminates processes automatically.

4. No Warranty

The App is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

5. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event shall the developers of Portia be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, or use, arising out of or in connection with your use of the App.

6. Third-Party Components

Portia uses macOS system frameworks (including Launch Services, Foundation, and User Notifications) provided by Apple Inc. Your use of those frameworks is governed by Apple's terms.

7. Updates

We may release updates to the App from time to time. Updates may add, change, or remove features. Continued use of the App after an update constitutes acceptance of the updated version.

8. Termination

You may stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it. These Terms remain in effect for any prior use.

9. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms occasionally. The "Last updated" date above reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be reflected in the App or on this page.
